Hi, I'm Lars.

I make short documentary films for mission-driven teams, nonprofits, B Corps, and purpose-driven companies doing work that matters.

My job is to find the human story in your work and turn it into something people feel, not just understand.

How I got here

I didn't start as a filmmaker. I was a research scientist, writing studies about green electricity and energy transformation. That was of course important work, but personally I got frustrated that our work didn’t seem to trigger change.

So I picked up a camera. I started learning how to capture real human experiences. I wanted to explore how to not only educate people, but to go beyond and really get people on board, join forces and make a difference.

That question led me to narrative science: the neuroscience of how stories work, why we remember characters but forget statistics, how emotion guides decision-making even when we think we're being rational.

Now I spend my time helping mission-driven teams translate what they do into stories that move people to act.

What I believe

Your story already exists. You don't need to manufacture one. Somewhere in your organisation, in the lives you've touched, the change you've made, there's a story waiting to be found. My job is to uncover it.

Characters create care. The most powerful stories don't lead with your mission statement. They lead with a human-being your audience can see themselves in. When people care about a person, they care about the cause.

Story is a tool. It can be used to maintain the status quo or to change it. I choose to work with people using it to build something better.

How I work

I work closely with small teams, often as a one-person “team”. This keeps things lean, personal, and focused on what matters: finding the right character, capturing authentic moments, and crafting a story that lands.

I'm also writing a book called Story for Good, about how mission-driven organisations can harness narrative to create lasting change.

Beyond the work

I live in Flanders, Belgium with my family. I have young kids, and they're a big part of why I do this work. I want them to grow up with a positive outlook into the future, and that means that people like you need to be heard.

When I'm not filming, I'm probably reading about human nature, listening to the Outrage + Optimism podcast, or thinking enjoying my passion for mountainbiking, bikepacking and music.

Let's talk

If you're doing meaningful work and want help making it visible, I'd love to hear from you.
